Meet Marteen, a budding R & B from singer from the bay area, although these days, with his recent success, he splits his time between Los Angeles. Marteen spent much of 2017 on tour with Kehlani and heating the summer up with his sizzling new single, “Sriracha”.
PLEEZER: With the success of “Sriracha”, how has that changed your life?
Marteen: I’ve gained a lot of fans, all over the world, but especially in Korea . That’s one of the biggest things that has happened, i’ve been getting a lot more love.
PLEEZER: How do you take that all in? Is it ever overwhelming?
Marteen: I just take it day by day, I appreciate everything that comes to me. All the love people show is definitely appreciated.
PLEEZER: How did, “Sriracha” come about?
Marteen: I wanted to make a really fun song that every body could dance to. My producer had some really fun chords that he wanted to play. It just came together naturally, the vibe was there. We just had fun.
PLEEZER: Speaking of vibes, who are some artists that inspire you right now?
Marteen: Ty Dolla Sign, is my favorite artist right now, He’s super dope, super soulful. Kehlani obviously ( *chuckles*), Tori Kelly. Some 90’s influences would be Musiq Soulchild, D’Angelo… I really like T-Pain too.
PLEEZER: If you could get artist on your album right now, who would that be?
Marteen: Ty Dolla $ign, I really like PnB Rock too.
PLEEZER: Are you currently working on an EP? When can that be expected?
Marteen: I am… but I can’t say when we will be releasing. You’ll have to wait and see.
PLEEZER: Totally understand – well we also heard that you play a few instruments. Will you be incorporating those talents into any of your new music?
Marteen: Definitely. I like to play guitar a lot. I have a lot of guitar influence in a lot of my songs coming in the EP. A lot of acoustic stuff, some piano.
